Fans of the Mission: Impossible movies are celebrating as director Christopher McQuarrie is closing a deal with Paramount Pictures to direct not just one, but two films for the Tom Cruise lead series, according to THR.

After the success of Fallout, the sixth installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, both new films will be shot back-to-back. The good news is that fans will not have to wait too much for the eight-film to release as the official Instagram page confirms that they’re slated for a Summer 2021 and Summer 2022 release date.

The most interesting detail of this news is that, apparently, McQuarrie rejected a deal with Warner Bros. to helm a DC film. As THR stated, “…he decided to take a breather and stay true to his friend and partner, Cruise.” As to which DC project he was offered, it still remains a mystery.

Mission: Impossible Fallout is the second film McQuarrie directed, with Rogue Nation being his debut in the franchise. Fallout was one of the biggest hits of 2018 with a grossing of $790 million and is considered one of the greatest action films of all times by critics and fans.
