After film director Paul Feig’s attempt at a Ghostbusters movie in 2016, which was financially unsuccessful, Sony released a surprise teaser for a fourth film in the franchise.
The film had been said to be released next year on July 10th and directed by Jason Reitman, son of Ivan Reitman, director of the original two Ghostbusters films in 1984 and 1989. Jason Reitman himself has gotten himself a place in the film industry after his directorial debut in 2005 with Thank You for Smoking, then going on to direct more works such as Juno and some episodes of The Office. Reitman had also been a producer for 2009’s Jennifer’s Body and 2014’s Whiplash.
Recently, it has been announced that actors Carrie Coon and Finn Wolfhard are reported to join the upcoming film as a single mother and her son.
Coon starred in last year’s Avengers: Infinity War as Proxima Midnight as well as Widows. She has also had a role in the third season of FX’s Fargo.
Wolfhard is renowned for his performance in 2017’s It: Chapter One as Richie Tozier and more so in the Duffer Brothers’ hit science fiction horror web series Stranger Things. He will also reprise his role as Tozier in It: Chapter Two, set to release in September of this year.
