Well, this is a shock. After news broke exactly one week ago that standout Will Smith wouldn’t be returning to James Gunn’s Suicide Squad sequel (titled The Suicide Squad), most simply assumed the character of Deadshot wouldn’t be in the film at all. As it turns out, Hollywood star Idris Elba will be playing Deadshot in the 2021 sequel.
Sources say that Elba and James Gunn met on Friday to discuss the deal, and that Elba was Gunn’s first and only choice.
Gunn’s film will reportedly revolve around different DC characters than David Ayer’s 2016 film did, with the exceptions being Harley Quinn and Deadshot. Sources have also reported that Joel Kinnaman will not return as Rick Flagg.
What do you think about this bombshell of casting news? Do you think Idris Elba is a good fit for Deadshot, or would you rather have had another actor? Let us know on Twitter and Instagram!
