Jordan Peele’s highly-anticipated Us is something fans want to go into theaters knowing nothing about. It is filled with hilarity, an unusual story, but more so some good frights. Before we release our spoiler review, here is a brief non-spoiler article on the film.
Us is quite an interesting follow-up film to his critically acclaimed hit Get Out. Lupita Nyong’o steals the show, delivering a remarkable dual role as mother/wife of the Wilson family, Adelaide, as well as the leader of the Tethered, Red. The plot in the film raises the stakes on a nationwide scale whereas Get Out is restricted to a certain area of North America, and its twisted ending leaves audiences with mixed reactions as did with M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass. Luniz’s song “I Got 5 On It” is highly emphasized throughout the film with an instrumental that reverberates in viewers during the climax. Peele also emphasizes greatly on the family dynamic and their roles in such a way that it resembles that of Pixar’s The Incredibles. Us is filled with symbolism, and some are difficult to notice upon first viewing. Its themes on class division and the uprising thereof have fans of the filmmaker wanting to see it more than once as Peele intends to “make a statement for the whole world to see.”
This is not a film you would want to miss out on.
