Captain Marvel, the 21st film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the first that centers on a female super-hero, debuted with a $153 million opening weekend and a mostly positive reception. And ever since, many people have gone to see the movie, and it finally made over a billion dollars at the box office today.

Captain Marvel is the 7th MCU movie to join the billion dollar club, after The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther and, most recently, Avengers: Infinity War, which is the most successful so far, making over 2 billion dollars. It’s also the 18th Disney movie to accomplish this feat.

Most notably, it is the highest-grossing female-led superhero movie. This record was previously held by Wonder Woman, which earned $841 million at the global box-office, proving that a little Marvel credit goes a long way.

This success will definitely be useful to Captain Marvel’s next movie appearance, Avengers: Endgame, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and starring Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor among others. The movie will premiere on April 26th, 2019.
