Star Wars reaches a major milestone this winter. When Star Wars: Rise of the Skywalker releases, it will mark the end of an epic eight movie saga. Going forward, it was unclear who or where the Star Wars franchise was moving on the big screen. We got some confirmation though, as early this week, Disney CEO Bob Iger stated that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss would pen the next 3 Star Wars movies. THIS IS HUGE! It only makes sense that the writers of one of the most popular and successful TV franchises ever, Game of Thrones, would take on a franchise such as Star Wars. As of now, Disney has the next three movies slated to come out in 2022, 2024 and 2026. It is not like star wars is going on complete break, as the Jon Favreau highly anticipated The Mandalorian series drops Disney streaming service soon.

This hire is great, as the Star Wars universe can finally play with some new toys, storylines, and original concepts. I don’t think that Disney would tap Benioff and Weiss to edit some old material, rather more so what they did with the latter seasons of Game of Thrones. As a lot of Game of Thrones fans knows, the story from the books (Fire and Ice) ends in season 5 and 6. So, with that being said, I believe Disney saw the great work that they produced in season 6 and 7, building on the same cast while at the same time, installing new ideas to make the season and stories progress along. All in all, I think there could not be a better hire for Disney to help further the Star Wars franchise into new territory! Let us know what you think and for all things cinema, you are in the right place!
