Halle Bailey, who is known for being in the R&B group ‘Chloe X Halle’ has been chosen to play Ariel in Disney’s upcoming live action remake of The Little Mermaid.

Halle Bailey is a young actress who will be taking on the role, but there is no doubt she will shine bright on the screen.

She will be joining the talents of Melissa McCarthy, Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina.

Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns) is set to direct the film, and with his recent success in the form of Mary Poppins Returns, we can expect a vibrant, musically oriented film.

The HollyWood Reporter reported it first.

“After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” said Marshall in a statement.

The film is slated to begin production in early 2020.
Alan Menken, who wrote the original Oscar winning score from the 1989 animated film will be teaming up with Hamilton creator Lin Manuel Miranda to work on songs for the film.

We are excited to see Bailey helm the role! What do you all think? Let us know in the comments below! For everything cinema, don’t forget to follow us @thecinemaspot.
