Watch out, Spider-Man fans! An important piece of information regarding Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ contract over control and use of the beloved character has been revealed, and it’s a big one.

According to The Ankler, a newsletter from journalist Richard Rushfield, Spider-Man could fully return to Sony’s hands if Far From Home doesn’t meet $1 billion mark at the box office as part of the contract. “The original Sony/Marvel/Spidey deal to co-produce these movies stipulated that if this Spidey cleared a billion, Marvel would get to oversee a third. If it hadn’t, full control would have reverted back to Sony,” said Rushfield.

The Sony /Marvel Studios partnership that allows the Web Head in the Marvel Cinematic Universe started back in 2015, and not much information of the agreement has been publicly revealed other than the basics: “Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films […]”, said originally at the press release announcing the deal. Meanwhile, Marvel Studios would work on the production side.

Another interesting detail that might fill in the gaps is that Tom Holland said in 2016 that his character would have three solo films, along with his three previous appearances in other MCU films.

While the next solo film is expected, fans would have to cross their fingers on whether or not it’ll continue to be set in the MCU. Thankfully, Far From Home is already at $600 million worldwide at the box office, so hopefully it’ll cross that billion dollar mark before the end of the month.
