If you’ve been on social media recently, mainly Twitter, you might have seen the casting rumors regarding Baz Luhrmann’s new biopic about Elvis Presley. Harry Styles, Ansel Elgort, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Miles Teller were just some of the names being speculated. On Monday, July 15th it was confirmed that Austin Butler has been cast as Elvis Presley. Tom Hanks is also linked to the film, he will play Elvis’ manager Tom Parker.
The film is set to revolve around the singer’s relationship with Tom Parker and how Elvis went from undiscovered talent to a global sensation. Deadline reported that the film will shoot in Queensland, Australia starting in 2020.
Butler’s girlfriend, Vanessa Hudgens, has even taken to Instagram to show her excitement and many fellow actors have commented in support such as Lily Collins, Sarah Hyland, and Ashley Benson.

Last year Austin Butler made his Broadway debut in The Iceman Cometh and can be seen later this month in Quentin Tarantino’s new film Once Upon A Time in Hollywood also starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie. Currently, he can be seen in The Dead Don’t Die alongside Adam Driver.
