Like a lot of us on the internet, you might be a little confused about who is actually starring in the new Little Mermaid film and who isn’t.
Here’s what we know for certain. Halle Bailey is definitely Ariel. The Hollywood Reporter, among other news sources, has confirmed this to be true. Rob Marshall, the director says that she has a “glorious singing voice” and “possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance.” Also joining the cast are Room star, Jacob Tremblay and Crazy Rich Asians star, Awkwafina as Flounder and Scuttle.
Still rumored to join the cast are Melissa McCarthy, Harry Styles, and Javier Bardem. McCarthy is rumored to be playing Ursula although nothing has been set in stone yet. The same goes for Styles and Bardem who have been linked to play Prince Eric and King Triton. Singer/actress Lizzo has expressed her interest in playing the evil sea witch and even posted a video of herself on Twitter in full costume. Terry Crews has also expressed his interest in playing King Triton. Now, Lizzo and Crews aren’t in talks at all, but social media has taken a liking to these fan casts.

There are still several roles left to cast so in the meantime let us know on Twitter @TheCinemaSpot who you’d like to see as, let’s say, Ariel’s sisters, Sebastian the crab, or Ursula’s human counterpart, Vanessa.
