So far we’ve received casting news for almost every character in Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’, but we have yet to receive info on who would be playing Prince Eric, Ariel’s love interest in the film. That changed today.

The DisInsider reported it first.

It has officially been announced that Actor/Singer Harry Styles (Dunkirk) will be playing the Prince. Harry Styles is of course best known for his position in the band One Direction, and his recent solo album ‘Harry Styles’, featuring the hit song ‘Sign of the Times’.

We can expect Harry to utilize his singing abilities alongside singer Halle Bailey.

When the live action adaptation of the classic animated film was announced, fans immediately began creating art depicting Styles as Eric.

As we know, Eric doesn’t sing in the original film, but we can expect creative liberties to be taken by Director Rob Marshall.

What do you guys think? Are you excited to see Harry Styles in this role? Let us know in the comments below! For all things cinema, follow us @thecinemaspot!

UPDATE

Due to recent reports from The Wrap, we have recently discovered that the original news that broke was inaccurately reported as a definite casting, when in reality it was simply an offer to Harry Styles.

Harry Styles was offered the role, but has since declined the role. As of right now, we have no information on who will be portraying Prince Eric upon the films release.

We at The Cinema Spot deeply apologize for the mistake, and will continue to keep you updated thoroughly throughout the continuation of the casting process for ‘The Little Mermaid’.
