The universe has some hope. Yesterday, Star Wars fans rejoiced once more as a legend from a previous trilogy came to the stage of the D23 Expo to announce his return. Ewan McGregor told current Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy in front of the massive audience that he will play the character Obi-Wan Kenobi once again.

Perhaps the biggest news from D23, information may have been revealed on the actor’s involvement.

According to Gizmodo, an original series for the Disney+ streaming service will feature the character eight months after the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and will take place around the time of Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Yesterday, it was made known that teleplays for the web series have been completed and filming for the show will commence sometime next year.

For a while, the legendary wise Jedi was rumored to have a spin-off film of his own in the Star Wars franchise. We thought he would have a film of his own, but with a series, he will now instead have more screentime which means more of Kenobi to see.

We can also expect to see more characters from Solo including Donald Glover and Emilia Clarke, especially with the end of the film teasing the live-action return of Darth Maul, but we’ve yet to get confirmation on that end.

As we wait for this, we can anticipate the release of Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker in theaters on December 20th, 2019!

What are your thoughts? Are you excited about McGregor’s return? Will you be seeing this series? Let us know! For more Star Wars-related news and reviews follow The Cinema Spot on Twitter (@TheCinemaSpot) and Instagram (@thecinemaspot_).
