After the casting announcements for the new Mortal Kombat movie made yesterday, more came out this week as it was revealed that Chin Han is going to play Shang Tsung and Hiroyuki Sanada is going to play Scorpion.

Shang Tsung, one of the main villains of the Mortal Kombat franchise, is a powerful sorcerer from Outworld whose spells include changing his appearance to look like his opponent and steal people’s souls. Chin Han seems like a good fit since he is a talented actor and has played villainous roles before, most notably that of Lau the Chinese mob boss in The Dark Knight.

Scorpion, arguably the most popular character of the franchise, is a ninja assassin reborn from Netherrealm (aka Hell) known for his deadly Kunai spear and his hellfire-based powers. Hiroyuki Sanada has already played two ruthless killers with martial arts expertise in both The Wolverine and Avengers: Endgame so it will be fun to see what he does with the role.

Mortal Kombat will be penned by Greg Russo and release on March 5, 2021.
