Frozen II is an upcoming animated musical fantasy film directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee and starring Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff, and Josh Gad. It is the sequel to a little film you may have heard of called Frozen, which told the story of Queen Elsa and Princess Anna. All jokes aside, the first Frozen was, and still is, a grand achievement in animation and filmmaking in general, breaking box office records and taking the world by storm with its powerful musical numbers and charming characters. But let go of the past, because if this most recent trailer for the sequel is any indication, Frozen II is going to transcend the original.
Frozen 2 dad story

Let’s begin with the start of this trailer, where a young Anna and Elsa are being told a story by their father of an enchanted forest in the north. Both girls are entranced by it, but he reveals that something went wrong and now nobody can enter or leave the forest. I believe this is going to be the crux of the main story of this film: what happened to this enchanted forest and did it give Elsa her powers? It is heavily implied that their mother and father were both in that forest for some time, so it’s believable for this to be the case.

Immediately after this story, we see that someone is calling to Elsa and that the Kingdom is in danger from some magical force. The elder troll, Pabbie, informs Elsa that the only way to save Arendelle is to find whatever is calling to her, leading herself, Anna, Kristoff and Sven, and of course Olaf to tag along on this adventure. That will be the main plot of the film and it is presented as a fantasy adventure film, less of a heartwarming musical like the first. I think this change should be welcomed, because it gives the Frozen franchise its own unique flair. It becomes more than a Disney princess film, it transcends this and becomes a sprawling fantasy epic franchise, which is something Disney has yet to do in animated form. It is a little bit reminiscent of the evolution of Dreamworks How to Train Your Dragon films. The first one of those was a very heartwarming comedy adventure, while the subsequent sequels were much more mature and epic in scale.

Frozen 2 elsa magic

The rest of the trailer consists of shots of Elsa discovering new magic, the beautiful but dangerous nature of this enchanted forest, and many shots that establish the love between Anna and Elsa, the main theme of the first film. And, of course, it ends with a comedic shot of Olaf running around terrified. Who doesn’t love that snowman? Josh Gad was brilliant in the first and I don’t doubt he’ll continue that in this film.

Frozen 2 gange

Disney, I’m answering the call. It’s time for Frozen to sweep the nation again.

What did you think of the second trailer for Frozen II? Are you as excited as I am?
