Lionsgate has tapped a horror veteran to helm their John Wick spinoff film, Ballerina. According to Full Circle Cinema, the director of DC Universe’s Swamp Thing, Len Wiseman will take the reigns of the spinoff film.

Ballerina will focus on a young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who murdered her family, much like John Wick when he decided to go after the men who murdered his beloved puppy and stole his car.

Wiseman is best known for his work on the Underworld franchise of films which starred actress Kate Beckinsale. Wiseman also directed one of the many sequels of the Die Hard franchise, Live Free or Die Hard and the 2012 remake of Total Recall, which also starred Beckinsale and actor Colin Farrell. However, more recently Wiseman has directed episodes of Fox’s Lucifier and Sleepy Hollow.

The script for Ballerina is written by Shay Hatten, who wrote John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead. Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee are set to produce and star Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski are attached to the project in some capacity.
