For months there have been rumors and tons of speculation over what The Batman was going to look like; who was playing Batman after Affleck departed, who the villain(s) would be, and what the story would look like. Well today we get another piece of that puzzle solved, as Matt Reeves has finally found his Riddler for the upcoming DC Comics film.
The role of Edward Nygma will be taken on by actor Paul Dano, known for his roles in There Will be Blood, 12 Years a Slave, and most recently in Okja. Dano is a wondrously talented actor and it’s never a mistake to add talent to a film. The cast for The Batman is shaping up to be something truly special with Robert Pattinson as Batman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, and now Dano as The Riddler.
There are still rumors over what other villains will appear in this film, but as of now we only have official confirmation of the two. Jonah Hill was heavily rumored to be involved with the project for some time and many speculated that he could be in talks to portray Oswald Copplebot, or the Penguin. However, it is now being reported that he was in fact in talks for the role of Edward Nygma as well, but once those talks fell through, Warner Brothers went ahead and cast Dano. Jonah Hill is a tremendously talented actor, but honestly I think he would’ve been a better fit for The Penguin. Dano has more of the trademark Riddler features, and just feels like a better fit all around. Either of these choices would have been great, but I’m glad to see that Dano got the part.
Are you excited to see Paul Dano take on Robert Pattinson’s Batman?
