Deadline confirmed that Amazon Studios has renewed The Lord of the Rings for a second season, way ahead of the current pre-production for the first season!

Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, revealed to Deadline that the company picked up the series for Season 2. According to Deadline, “the early Season 2 pickup is good news for fans as it will allow for a shorter break between the end of Season 1 and the premiere of Season 2 on Prime Video, which is available in 240-plus countries and territories”.

Season 1 of the J.R.R. Tolkein based series is currently in pre-production, with New Zealand as the current filming location. After the first two episodes are finished, the series will take a four- five month recession in order to gather all the writters and start fleshing out the next season.

The Middle Earth TV series counts with showrunners and Executive Producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, telling a new storyline that’s set before Peter Jackson’s The Fellowship of the Ring.
