It’s hard not to notice that, out of all the films in the MCU, The Incredible Hulk feels the most detached. First and foremost, at the face of it all, Bruce Banner, once played by the amazing Edward Norton, has been recast. The actor to replace him? It’s who we’ve come to know as the marvelous Mark Ruffalo. Both actors have played the character incredibly well in their own right, but Mark Ruffalo has become a staple in the cinematic universe since 2012. Even though his performance has been out of this world, the character of the Hulk has yet to be represented in a standalone film that makes sense in the MCU. This is due to the fact that the Hulk isn’t actually owned by Marvel Studios, but Universal Pictures. The same can be said about Namor, as many viewers of Avengers: Endgame believed upon Okoye’s report to Natasha about the earthquake on the ocean floor was a reference to Namor, a character that cannot truly be brought to fruition because he is also owned by Universal.

Marvel could have made a Hulk solo outing, but the rights Universal has held on the character would prevent them from seeing any reasonable profit. Namor himself isn’t as massive of a figure as Hulk in Marvel, but anything ranging from a mention/cameo to a larger involvement of the character could expand the MCU greatly.

Give Banner’s limb complications after the cosmic snap he performed at the end of Endgame, he may or may not continue on significantly in the MCU. However, even if he plays a minimal part in, say, not just the She-Hulk series, but possibly an film centered around Amadeus Cho, we could see the Hulk characterized in ways we could not imagine.

This is only a rumor that the rights for both characters have been acquired by Marvel Studios. What do you think the possibilities are for both these characters if this is true? Let us know! Follow us on Twitter @thecinemaspot and Instagram @thecinemaspot_!
