It’s no question Marvel’s made great strides when it comes to their video games, from the mobile Contest of Champions to PlayStation exclusive Spider-Man. On the horizon looms Marvel’s Avengers, one of their most expansive undertakings yet helmed by Crystal Dynamics. The first looks at the game were met with mixed reviews, especially with the aesthetics of this new Marvel world, which were improved upon. However, what we once had to wait only four months for, we now have to wait double, as Crystal Dynamics released this statement today:
To our fans,
At Crystal Dynamics our ambition has always been to deliver the ultimate Avengers gaming experience. In order to achieve that goal, we have made the difficult decision to move the release date of Marvel’s Avengers to September 4, 2020.
As fans ourselves, it’s an honor and a privilege to work with these legendary characters and we know what these Super Heroes mean to us and True Believers around the world. When we set out to bring you our vision for Marvel’s Avengers, we committed to delivering an original story-driven campaign, engaging co-op, and compelling content for years to come. To that end, we will spend this additional development time focusing on fine tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve.
The worldwide teams working on Marvel’s Avengers sincerely appreciate the support you’ve shown us. We thrive on your enthusiasm and feedback and we can’t wait to show you more. We apologize for the delay. We’re confident it will be worth the wait.
We haven’t had a cooperative game of its sort that has looked this promising since Marvel Ultimate Alliance back in 2006, and with games like the sequel to Injustice (DC) in the superhero realm that is both available on most consoles and levels up the gaming experience with customizable characters, it’s hard not to yearn for an adventure in the same vein from Marvel.
Granted, this a game like this has to break new boundaries of its genre, that overall being a loot-based game by the looks of it. Processing as much as it will have to at launch and beyond with a slew of additional content, it’s no wonder they are pushing this release as far as they are.
As someone who wasn’t planning on getting this game on release regardless, this doesn’t bother me in the slightest, as I hope to wait the game out and see just how good it is, especially pending the release of the PlayStation 5 and its performance on said console. What say you on the further tinkering on one of the most anticipated Marvel adventures in video games? Let us know!
