A new trailer for Morbius — which will be set in Sony’s live-action Spider-Verse shared with Disney/Marvel — premiered earlier this week. The inclusion of the Spider-Man character in this universe, along with the surprise appearance of another villain, showed Marvel fans that the MCU and the Sony side will be bridged by these characters. This begs us to wonder: A Sinister Six film is once again a possibility, and if this is the case, who will the members of the team be?
A film featuring the Web-Slinger’s fearful foes has been teased since the production of Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014). At the time, Sony had planned for a third feature-length film with Andrew Garfield donning the mask, with Venom and Sinister Six being spin-offs. The film franchise was seemingly canceled with Spider-Man being brought over to Disney during the pre-production of Captain America: Civil War (2016).
The success of Sony’s late-2018 films Venom and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse shows that the production company still has a chance at making this work. If a live-action Sinister Six team is to be brought to the big screen, I believe I know who would be in it.
Adrian Toomes/ Vulture
Peter Parker’s first nemesis in Spider-Man: Homecoming was last seen imprisoned after the destruction of Coney Island. Adrian Toomes, also known as Vulture, worked with Phineas Mason (Tinkerer) and Herman Schultz (Shocker).
Toomes shows up at the end of the Morbius trailer, the two probably having known each other.
Herman Schultz/ Shocker
The Vulture’s second-in-command was seemingly taken down in the parking lot of Peter Parker’s high school. His fate since then has not been revealed, and if he had been imprisoned, there could be a possibility that he could have been broken out or will eventually be.
Mac Gargan/ Scorpion
In Homecoming, Mac Gargan was knocked off of the Staten Island Ferry when Vulture fought Spider-Man. He was later seen meeting Toomes again, this time revealing that he knows the identity of the Web-Slinger. He also tells Toomes that he has contacts outside of prison that could help them take down Spider-Man.
This would be a waste if he were left out of the roster.

Quentin Beck/ Mysterio
This villain was last seen being gunned down at the end of Far From Home. We can assume he is dead, but a lot of unusual events have transpired in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It would not be surprising if he had survived the events of the film somehow. I mean, this wouldn’t be the first time a character has been resurrected. With a character like Mysterio, you can be really tricky. Look at Loki.
Kraven the Hunter
During the promotion of Spider-Man: Far From Home last July, director Jon Watts stated in an interview that he would like to use this villain if he were to make a third film. Despite the troubling events between Sony and Disney after the release of that movie, a third film is still in the works. This means this could very much be a possibility. However, we must now take this with a grain of salt. Disney has a history of letting go of its creative minds due to differences. It would be interesting to see Peter Parker be hunted down with the likes of Kraven after the reveal of Peter’s secret identity as Spider-Man at the end of Far From Home.
In the comics, Kraven has a half-brother named Dmitri, also known as the villain Chameleon. Dmitri appeared in Far From Home as Nick Fury’s associate in Europe.
Wealthy sixth member
Spider-Man: Homecoming showcased the purchase of Avengers Tower in New York City, and for a while, fans are trying to figure out who bought this building. There are currently no hints of Otto Octavius/ Doc Ock or Norman Osborn/ Green Goblin so far. Although, we could surmise that perhaps Morbius the Living Vampire could have bought the tower. If he could afford the research for his medical condition, he might just be able to buy the former building of the superhero team.
Other tidbits:
At the end of Homecoming, Phineas Mason’s whereabouts have yet to be known. In the comics, the character supplied Aaron Davis, otherwise known as Prowler.
Donald Glover should still have a contract in the franchise, and we can’t rule his character out as a potential member of the Six. The character was previously a member of Kingpin’s version of the Sinister Six in Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). If the live-action Mason and Davis are to return, here’s to hoping we get to see Miles Morales in the future!
I believe Prowler should be an ally to Peter Parker. Spider-Man has not angered this character in the films like he has with the other villains. This should be the same case with Eddie Brock’s Venom. It would seem that this symbiote may serve more as an ally than a villain towards Spider-Man, but who knows?
While all this is taken into consideration, who would the leader of the Six be?
The third Spider-Man film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is scheduled to shoot later this year and is set to release on July 16th, 2021.
UPDATE: Spider-Man: No Way Home releases during Christmas Season 2021.
What do you think? Who do you think the potential members of the future Sinister Six are? Will you be tuning in? Let us know! For more comic book-related news and reviews follow The Cinema Spot on Twitter (@TheCinemaSpot) and Instagram (@thecinemaspot_).
