According to sources close to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney and Lucasfilm have talked to the Jojo Rabbit director to develop his own Star Wars film.
It’s unclear where the terms stand in these talks and if his project will be related to the Kevin Feige-helmed project. Keep in mind that Feige worked closely with Waititi on Thor: Ragnarok. Disney has yet to comment on this.
Waititi is coming off a hot 2019. He directed the last episode of The Mandalorian and Jojo Rabbit has been nominated for six Oscars as well. His episode of the later earned high praise and fans are calling for his return to Star Wars-related material in the future.
There is also the need of timing should he take this project. He is in post-production of a drama/comedy for Fox Searchlight, Next Goal Wins and then moves onto what may be Chris Hemsworth’s last outing as Thor, Thor: Love and Thunder, set for a November 5, 2021 release.
I loved Waititi’s direction for The Mandalorian‘s season finale and I loved the work he did on Ragnarok. How do you feel about this news? Are you excited to see what Waititi could do for a Star Wars film? Let us know down in the comments and stay right here for more Star Wars news!
