Our latest adventure with the Doctor and her companions takes us to the past to meet one history’s greatest inventor: Nikola Tesla.
In this episode, we are introduced to Tesla when he’s trying to find investors to fund his latest revolutionary creation but fails to do so. Protestors stand against the inventor, deeming him a madman and claiming his creations would kill people. The Doctor Yas, Graham and Ryan find Tesla when tracing an energy signal and save him from strange figures attacking him.
Some of the greatest Doctor Who moments are found in these historical episodes, where the Doctor teaches us about these great men and women, some we might have heard of and some me haven’t yet.
This episode is a great introduction to Nikola Tesla. I found it a bit odd when Yas and Ryan asked the Doctor who Tesla was, as I assumed he was a worldwide-known figure but after reading some social media I found that quite a lot of viewers were also unfamiliar with the inventor. The episode effectively addresses who this misunderstood genius and visionary was.
Goran Višnjić’s portrayal of Tesla is fantastic and it’s really fun watching him interact with the Doctor. We also see Tomas Edison (Robert Glenister) whose rivalry with Tesla many might have read about.
The episode is a great improvement, comparing it with last week’s. The story is pretty straight forward and doesn’t really bring out anything new yet, but it meets the requirements of a good historical episode, it’s a really great introduction to these historical figures and brings great dynamics between them and The Doctor and her companions.
Score: 7.5/10
