Last week gave Star Wars fans a little scare when news that the Obi-Wan Kenobi show on Disney+ would be canceled surfaced throughout social media. Some causes of this were fake Discussing Film accounts on Twitter, but no one knows for sure who started these rumors.
Today, we get an update on the Ewan McGregor-led series.
While the show isn’t being canceled, it is being delayed. According to Collider, the show is put on hold “indefinitely,” with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy not satisfied with the current set of teleplays. The scripts are said to probably require some rewrites with the crew — having been sent home — to reassemble later this summer.
Late last summer, McGregor announced at the D23 Expo that he would return as the iconic character from the prequel trilogy. Kennedy seems to want to make this series as memorable as possible in terms of its storytelling aspect. The Star Wars franchise has past troubles with productions such as Solo and The Rise of Skywalker; the former had replaced directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller with Ron Howard in the midst of production.
The series is not scrapped, so it’s best that we be grateful that Obi-Wan is returning to grace fans on screens worldwide — just not as soon as we expected.
