Ever since Mad Max: Fury Road, the long awaited return of the post-apocalyptic action franchise Mad Max, hit theaters on May 2015 to box office success and critical acclaim, fans have been anxiously waiting for a sequel. But much like Mad Max: Fury Road, its sequel has been in development hell for quite some time, though not for nearly as long and not though to simple bad luck.
Long story short, George Miller, the director and writer of all the Mad Max movies, and his production company had a legal dispute with Warner Bros., the studio behind the movie, which of course put the planned sequel, titled Mad Max: Wasteland, on hold. But now that it’s been resolved, Miller is finally free to resume work on the movie and was reportedly given the green light to begin filming in Australia, this fall.
The previous movie starred Tom Hardy as the titular character, as opposed to Mel Gibson in the first three installments of the franchise, and Charlize Theron as the sort of co-protagonist, Furiosa. No word on the plot, whether the movie will retain the title or whether the cast will return.
Meanwhile, George Miller is also working on the movie Three Thousand Years of Longing, starring Idris Elba and Tilda Switon, set to release sometime this year.
