Michael De Luca, the new chair of MGM, has recently hired a ton of new executives and is dedicating this time to reshape the company. MGM acquired the Ridley Scott film and Lady Gaga is in early negotiations to star as Patrizia Reggiani. The story centers around Maurizio Gucci’s murder and Gaga’s would play his wife. Maurizio was the grandson of Guccio Gucci and ran the company in the 1980s. Reggiani was accused of setting up his murder after finding out he had an affair.
Roberto Bentivegna is set to write the script and it will be based on the 2001 book titled The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed that was written by Sara Gay Forden. The book goes into great detail about the family history that contained nothing less than money and corporate intrigue.
Ridley Scott and his wife Giannina are set to produce the film and as of now, the release date is November 24, 2021. A theatrical release is one of the main reasons that MGM won this film over streaming services like Netflix. The idea of this premiering on the big screen appealed to Scott.
What are your thoughts on this upcoming film? Do you think the theatrical release suits this or do you feel it is better to stream on Netflix or Hulu? Let us know your thoughts on Twitter @TheCinemaSpot.
