In a report from Variety, it was revealed that the co-creator and showrunner of Netflix’s hit series Russian Doll, Leslye Headland, will be developing a new Star Wars live-action show for Disney+. While the plot is unknown, Deadline has reported that the series will be a “female-driven action thriller with martial arts elements.”
Variety also reports that the series will be set in a time period that other shows and films have yet to and will not yet explore. So far, Star Wars has explored the only a few decades worth or time spanning The Fall of the Republic all the way to the Fall of the First Order, from 32 BBY (Before Battle of Yavin) to 35 ABY (After Battle of Yavin).
Headland is also said to be attached to write episodes and serve as showrunner throughout production of the first season. The series is currently looking for staff to begin pre-production.
