We at The Cinema Spot have learned that Amazon has renewed its hit superhero show The Boys for a third season. This decision has been made before the second season of the series has been released.
This should not be surprising to fans of the show, seeing as how season 1 of The Boys was very well received. The show also isn’t new to early renewals either, as season 2 was announced before season 1 premiered.
Furthermore, Paul Grellong has been added to the writers’ room for the third season. Grellong is a writer/producer/director known for his work on the CBS shows Hawaii Five-0 and Scorpion.
Showrunner Eric Kripke has already talked about what he would like to do in a potential (and now actual) third season. Last July, during a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) at r/television, Kripke stated he would like to adapt the Herogasm storyline from the comics.
We JUST figured out how to do Herogasm!! It’ll come in Season 3 maybe (if we get picked up for Season 3). I’ve really wanted to do it, but needed to figure out our twist on it, so it’s not just an hour of hardcore porn. But I think we got it!! Super excited about that.
On Twitter, Kripke stated a few months ago that he would like to have Jeffrey Dean Morgan play a role in the third season. Morgan replied, saying he would love to do it.
Thanks @JDMorgan for spreading #TheBoys gospel! I’ll make you a deal. Season 3. I’ll write it, and if you’re avail, come shoot it! Thanks for all the love, brother.
It’s clear that the third season has been in the works for a while now. This is great news, because it means Kripke believes the show will be getting even more seasons. It also allows the writers to plan out story arcs that take place throughout multiple seasons, allowing for more complex and thought-out storytelling.
We have also learned the episode titles for the second season. They’re listed below:
- The Big Ride
- Proper Preparation and Planning
- Nothing Like It In The World
- Over The Hill With The Swords Of A Thousand Men
- We Gotta Go Now
- The Bloody Doors Off
- Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker
- What I Know
The superhero series is based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The show follows an eponymous team of vigilantes as they fight back against superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities. The cast for season 1 includes: Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capon, Karen Fukuhara, Nathan Mitchell, and Elisabeth Shue. Aya Cash, Goran Visnjic, and Claudia Doumit joined the cast for season 2.
Despite the shutdown of movies and television projects due to the COVID-19 outbreak, The Boys was able to finish production on the second season of the series. Unfortunately, the release date is still being kept under wraps, but Eric Kripke has promised a summer 2020 release, like the first season.
