In a brand new exclusive from The DisInsider, it was revealed that Walt Disney Studios is developing a live-action version of the 1997 hit animated film Hercules. Not only is the studio developing the film, but they are already looking ahead toward potential directors, and have their sights set high.

With Jeffrey Silver (The Lion King, Tron: Legacy) attached to produce the film alongside Karen Gilchrist (The Mandalorian, The Lion King), the film is expected to be a theatrical release. The DisInsider also reports that songs from the original film as well as new songs will be incorporated into the flick.

As for directors, four big names were floated around, though these directors are not in any formal talks to actually helm the project. First up in Jon Favreau, director of The Lion King and The Mandalorian. With an established reputation and repertoire between the film’s producers, Favreau’s name has surely made the rounds at least once.

Next up were The Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony. The men behind Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame are, in my opinion, and odd listing, but definitely reliable to adapt beloved materials. They also helmed two of the world’s largest-grossing films of all-time, definitely a bonus in the eyes of any studio.

Finally, Gore Verbinski is reportedly in the ring. The man who kicked off one of Disney’s most beloved franchises starring Johnny Depp- Pirates of the Carribean. Verbinski also directed the 2013 Disney film The Lone Ranger, once more starring Depp.
