If you love the smell of nostalgia like I do, then you’re in for a treat! It was reported by Slashfilm that R.L Stine’s Goosebumps is officially being rebooted by Sony Pictures. Producer Neal H. Moritz (who created the Goosebumps films) and Scholastic Entertainment are teaming up together to get this show on the road.
What started off as children’s books that told horrific stories of ghosts, ghouls, and monsters in the early-1990s went on to become a television sensation! Kids around the world were now able to watch their favorite horror novels come to life. The Goosebumps series took an anthology approach, with each episode taking on a different book. It was certainly a perfect rendition of The Twilight Zone for a younger audience. The TV show had one of the best runs on cable at the time, being rated #1 consecutively for four seasons straight (which is the length of the entire series).
Details surrounding the reboot such as cast members, filming locations, release dates, etc have not been revealed as stated by IndieWire. President Iole Lucchese of Scholastic Entertainment only had this to say:
Goosebumps has been keeping kids and families on the edge of their seats for nearly 30 years and we’re very excited to partner with Sony Pictures Television and Neal H. Moritz to bring the enduring brand to life in a fresh new way for today’s generation. From the world-famous book series to a full-scale licensing program and even live-action movies starring Jack Black, Goosebumps remains wildly popular and we look forward to presenting new adventures to give fans even more Goosebumps.
Moritz is the founder of the Original Film production company; he also produced such films including I Know What You Did Last Summer, I Am Legend, the Prom Night remake, 21 and 22 Jump Street, and most recently, Sonic the Hedgehog.
He was also the executive producer of television series Prison Break, Happy!, The Boys, and Preacher.
Even though not much has been disclosed, it is astonishing that multi-generations today will soon be able to enjoy a fresh version of the franchise we’ve all come to love and cherish.
The original Goosebumps television series can be streamed on Netflix. Need help with choosing which ones to watch? Check out our Top 5 Episodes here!
