“What’s your damage?” It’s what I’m going to say to you if you tell me that you’ve never seen Heathers. I’m just kidding, I’m not that cruel. I’ve come to learn in recent years that a lot of people actually haven’t seen it and that surprises me. This is definitely a cult classic like most films made in the 1980s. Similar to my recommendation last week, this movie also became a musical and while I’m not here to recommend musicals you should check it out too.

If you spent a large chunk of time thinking that Heathers is like Mean Girls I am so sorry to burst your bubble. The only thing these two have in common is a popular clique of three girls and an outsider who infiltrates said clique. Well, Barrett Wilbert Weed also starred in the musical versions of both of these movies, but I digress. Heathers is about a girl named Veronica (Winona Ryder) who wants to be as popular as the Heathers trio which consists of Heather Chandler (Kim Walker), Heather Duke (Shannon Doherty), and Heather McNamara (Lisanne Falk). Veronica meets a boy named JD (Christian Slater), and her life starts to spiral. She falls head over heels for him all while “accidental” murders start taking place. Veronica finds out that JD is not who she thought he was. No one ever suspects the boy they have a crush on to be a murderer, right?

Heathers has everything a good 80s film should have; Winona Ryder, killer plaid outfits, Christian Slater, and memorable quotes. If it’s a personal favorite of yours then take this as a reminder to give it a rewatch and if you haven’t seen it well then this is your sign to do so!
