A few weeks ago, lead actor of NBC‘s Community, Joel McHale, expressed optimism that the hit comedy series will return for a film. Earlier on April 1st (or, for fans, March 32nd), the series was released on the Netflix streaming service. It also runs — and has been running — on Hulu.

Today, in exclusive news by Michael Schneider at Variety,  the cast of the hit comedy sitcom along with series creator Dan Harmon will return for a virtual table read and Q&A as a charitable event to donate to COVID-19 relief efforts.

Troy Barnes actor Donald Glover left the series early in Season 5 to pursue his musical endeavors and a series of his own (Atlanta on FX). His return for the table read will be his first appearance since Barnes sailed off to see what life lies ahead for him.

Joining Glover are stars McHale as Jeff Winger, Gillian Jacobs as Britta Perry, Danny Pudi as Abed Nadir, Yvette Nicole Brown as Shirley Bennett, Alison Brie as Annie Edison, Jim Rash as Dean Craig Pelton, Ken Jeong as Ben Chang, along with Harmon.

The table read will be shown in its entirety, along with a Q&A of fan questions, on Monday, May 18, at 2 p.m. PT via Sony Pictures TV’s Community YouTube page. The cast is set to read “Cooperative Polygraphy,” the fourth episode of Season 5, which first aired January 16, 2014 on NBC. “Cooperative Polygraphy” was a “bottle episode,” taking place — aside from the end-credits tag — in the Greendale Community College library study room where the study group gathers after the funeral of Pierce Hawthorne (Chevy Chase). Waiting for them is Pierce’s estate executor Mr. Stone, played by Walton Goggins (who will not be available to join the table read). One by one, the group members undergo a polygraph examination and are bequeathed final gifts.

“Cooperative Polygraphy” also served as the second-to-last episode to air that featured Glover and his character.

For the Q&A, fans can submit questions on social media using the hashtag #AskCommunity and tag the series account @CommunityTV.

As part of the event, fans will be asked to contribute to two charities: José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen and Frontline Foods, both of which are involved in COVID-19 relief efforts to get fresh, nourishing meals to responders working on the frontlines and vulnerable communities across the country.

(as per Variety)

Community ran for six seasons (on NBC, with its final season on Yahoo Screen) from 2009 to 2015. Since then, fans have wondered whether a movie — fulfilling Abed (Danny Pudi)’s #sixseasonsandamovie prophecy — might happen. With the series finishing its promised six-season run, we’ve only have #andamovie to anticipate.
