According to a new report from Collider, the immensely popular Disney+ streaming service is developing a series based around the beloved National Treasure franchise. Jerry Bruckheimer, director the of National Treasure: The Book of Secrets, recently opened up to Collider about the plans Disney has for the National Treasure IP.
“We’re certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen. Hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure, but they’re both very active….The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept but a young cast. The one for theatrical would be the same cast.”
With a younger, cast a National Treasure series has the potential to last a much longer time, and can afford a lower budget by not including movie superstar Nic Cage, though how young has yet to be determined.
On the third film entry into the National Treasure franchise, which attached Bad Boys For Life writer Chris Bremmer, and set to be directed by Jon Turtletaub, Bruckheimer said this:
“The film version is being written right now. The television version is in process. We have a pilot script done and an outline of the future episodes.”
