The Cinema Spot has learned that Captain Kirk will be boarding the U.S.S. Enterprise once again! CBS All Access is currently in the process of casting James T. Kirk on their upcoming Star Trek: Discovery spin-off series centered around Captain Pike, titled Star Trek: Enterprise.

CBS All Access is eyeing multiple actors, but sources close to CBS have informed us that the streaming service is very keen on casting Jake Cannavale for the role. He recently held a screentest with Star Trek: Discovery Spock actor Ethan Peck, through Skype.

Jacob Cannavale (also known as Jake Cannavale) is a musician and television actor. His most notable acting role is on the Disney+ original series The Mandalorian. He is the son of actor Bobby Cannavale and screenwriter Jenny Lumet. Jenny Lumet is the writing partner of Star Trek executive producer Alex Kurtzman. Lumet and Kurtzman are currently working together on CBS’ Clarice series, which just received a series order a few days ago.

Cannavale would be playing a young version of the character, if he signs on. James Tiberius Kirk first appeared in Star Trek: The Original Series serving aboard the starship USS Enterprise as captain. Kirk leads his crew as they explore new worlds, new civilizations, and “boldly go where no man has gone before”. Often, Spock acts as his logical and emotional sounding crew member and best friend.

What do you think? Could Cannavale pull off his part in the iconic Kirk/Spock relationship? Please let us know on Twitter and Instagram!
