For fans of 2019’s A Christmas Carol, FX and BBC are bringing back the same crew to take on Charles Dickens’s penultimate novel Great Expectations!
The Hollywood Reporter learned that just six months after the premiere of the A Christmas Carol miniseries, the two cable networks have tagged writer and executive producer Stephen Knight (Peaky Blinders, Dirty Pretty Things) to spearhead this new project.
Along with Knight, both Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner) and Tom Hardy (Venom, FX’s Taboo) will return to the Dickens’s adaptation franchise, although it is not clear in what role. While the three have worked together on the last miniseries (AAC), Hardy also worked closely with writer Knight for their 2017 FX television series Taboo, so the pair are well acquainted with one another.
Great Expectations is Dickens’s novel surrounding a young boy named Pip and his coming of age journey. Interestingly, Dickens’s first released the story as a weekly serial in Dickens’s own periodical All Year Round, so the story already has a basis to be broken up into a miniseries
As always, thank you for checking out The Cinema Spot! We’d love to hear your thoughts on if you’re excited about this adaptation, and how you felt about last year’s miniseries either down below or over on Twitter and Instagram!
