It’s been reported that Disney and Lucasfilm is looking to cast fan favorite character Grand Admiral Thrawn for a live-action role. The Star Wars show or movie he will be appearing on is as of yet unspecified.
For those not on the know, Thrawn is a character that made his debut in the 1991 Star Wars novel Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn, the first of a trilogy of novels commonly referred to as the Thrawn trilogy, which take place after Return of the Jedi. He became a fan favorite due to his brilliant strategic mind as he was always one step ahead of his opponents.
These novels are no longer canon, but because Thrawn was so beloved Disney brought him back as the main villain of season 3 of the animated series Star Wars Rebels. And Zahn has written a new Thrawn trilogy, this time set before A New Hope and after the events of Rebels.
He’s the latest of many characters that originated from animated Star Wars shows to have a planned live-action debut, these include Ahsoka Tano, Ezra Bridger and Bo-Katan.
