I know you’ve probably seen them all. The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper, The Muppet Christmas Carol, Muppet Treasure Island, Muppets From Space, etc. In this recommendation, I am only focusing on the iconic The Muppets Take Manhattan. (Disclaimer; the above information does not mean I do not think every Muppet movie is iconic, I do.) I am not even sorry that I’ve been laying all of these 80s movies on you recently! The same cousin that introduced me to Labyrinth introduced me to The Muppets Take Manhattan and every other Muppet film. If I had to choose I’d say this is my favorite Muppets movie. It’s purely chaotic, but in the classic, charming Muppet way.
The basic plotline follows Kermit and his friends right after they all graduate from college. The gang decides to take their musical “Manhattan Melodies” all the way to Broadway. Unbeknownst to them getting a musical on a Broadway stage is harder than it looks. After striking out several times, the group parts ways after lying to Kermit. He befriends a waitress at a diner and the two of them work to get their show produced. Finally, they find an up and coming producer for their show, and on the way to tell Miss Piggy Kermit gets amnesia after getting hit by a car. The whole group reunites to bring back Kermit’s memory so they can perform. No spoilers here, folks!
