To celebrate Father’s Day I wanted to choose a film with an iconic father figure. Who better than Tom Baker? Cheaper by the Dozen 2, in my opinion, is better than the first film. I can recite the entire thing! I have received quite a few questioning looks when I say that, but I firmly stand by it. For as crazy as his antics are I feel that this film really shows why Tom is a great father. He just wants the absolute best for his kids. If that means following his daughter on her first date to the movies and nearly falling over the balcony, he’ll do it. He’s a dad who is starting to realize more than a few of his kids are leaving the nest so he tries everything in his power to give them all one final vacation full of nostalgia.
When Lorraine Baker (Hilary Duff) graduates high school Tom (Steve Martin) and Kate (Bonnie Hunt) decide to take the entire family back to the lake where they’ve had dozens of vacations before. None of the kids are that interested but eventually give in to him. He tries to recreate all of their old activities but the kids are more interested in the neighbor’s house. The same neighbor who happens to be Tom’s old rival, Jimmy Murtaugh (Eugene Levy). The film becomes a rival between the two fathers, but of course a happy, somewhat sappy ending.
The last thing I will say about this film is that the soundtrack is absolutely unmatched. Do you have a favorite film or television father? Let us know on Twitter! Also, we want to know which Cheaper by the Dozen film you prefer.
