In a very surprising move, Starz has decided to renew American Gods for a fourth season.
We have recently learned that season 4 of American Gods is currently in the works at Starz. Originally, the plan was for production studio Fremantle to film seasons 3 and 4 back-to-back. This unfortunately did not happen due to the Coronavirus shutdown.
The fantasy drama series, based on Neil Gaiman’s novel of the same name, follows Ricky Whittle as the series’ lead Shadow Moon. He meets a strange man called Mr. Wednesday, played by Ian McShane, after being released from prison. Shadow soon becomes embroiled in a large-scale conflict between the Old Gods and the New Gods, who grow stronger each day.
The series is notorious for its behind-the-scenes problems. From actors leaving to showrunners being fired, the production of American Gods has been a mess for as long as the show has existed. The fact that the series has been renewed for a fourth season is astonishing to say the least.
It is currently unclear when production on season 4 will begin, as the Coronavirus continues to be an issue for several shows and movies.
Meanwhile, the third season has not finished filming yet. It is currently in post-production, with plans to return to shooting later this year.
