I have some unfortunate news for fans of The Orville. Hulu has decided to cancel the show and will not return for a fourth season.

I am still trying to get more details on the situation but from my understanding, the intention was never to make a fourth season. However, we will still be getting the third season.

We probably would not have even gotten a third season if it wasn’t for an international deal that Disney needed to complete (which included a third season of The Orville).

The sci-fi dramedy, created by and starring Seth MacFarlane, is set on the titular USS Orville, a mid-level exploratory space vessel in the Planetary Union, a 25th-century interstellar alliance of Earth and many other planets.

Even though the show is cancelled, it is still possible for fans to get a fourth season. These networks and streaming services cancel shows all the time, but series like Lucifer, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Expanse have all found their homes somewhere else. Seeing as how The Orville already moved once, it can easily do it again. But I do have to stress that at the moment, I am not aware of Hulu being in talks with any other streaming services or networks about moving the show elsewhere.

After the third season of The Orville finishes production, sets and props will be dismantled and the studio space of The Orville will be used by another Hulu show, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

It is clear to me that The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is supposed to be a replacement of The Orville, as they are both comedy sci-fi series, and Hitchhiker’s Guide will be replacing The Orville in the studio lot.

Hulu’s The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy has also already been renewed for a second season, as I have previously reported.

So, in the end, one sci-fi series goes, and another one takes its place.

  1. Nooooo!!! It’s more Star Trek than new Trek. It’s funny and smart, I love watching it. This is terrible news. 🙁 It’s the only show I lay Hulu for. I like other shows on Hulu, but The Orville is the reason I pay. I’ll be cancelling my membership. Not in any protest, just because this was what brought me to Hulu. It’s the only series I love right now.

    1. I was excited to see season 3 of Orville when I got the tgiving Hulu special for 1.99/mo. I would never have tried it otherwise. At least now I won’t have to pay full price to watch commercials. We’ll be done with hulu after the 1 yr promo as well.

  2. I was originally looking for other reasons to CANCEL my Hulu subscription besides the problems with the sound volume where we have to crank up the volume so high and still can’t hear the shows/movies but the commercials are always blaring loudly to crack our sound system speakers. We usually just exit out of Hulu and go back to Netflix. Now, I find “The Orville” has moved over to Hulu for season three with the expected release in Spring of 2022 and I’m going to have keep my Hulu subscription going until the end of The Orville Season THREE. By then, I will have no reason to keep Hulu and I can drop Hulu just like they dropped The Orville. As for Seth Mcfarlane, the man’s a Genius and without sounding like a creepy stalker, I’m sure I’ll find out where I can watch Season FOUR!
