Do you like scary movies? Did you hear that the best final girl will soon return?

It is being reported by Bloody Disgusting that Neve Campbell has officially signed on to reprise her iconic role as Sidney Prescott in the upcoming Scream reboot from Paramount.

The Scream reboot will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and written by James Vanderbilt. This is the first Scream film not helmed by franchise creator and horror legend, Wes Craven. However, this creative team is no stranger to horror franchises as Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillet directed last year’s hit film Ready or Not and the anthology horror series V/H/S. Additionally, Vanderbilt knows how to write a suspenseful killer story, as he wrote the classic David Fincher film, Zodiac.

Not much is currently known about the plot of this fifth Scream film, but many franchise veterans are set to return. This includes David Arquette as Dewey Riley and Courtney Cox as Gale Weathers. We also recently reported that franchise newcomer Jack Quaid had been cast in the film, but not much is known about his role.

It would be impossible to make a Scream film without Sidney Prescott. She is the heart and soul of the franchise, and equally as important as someone donning the Ghostface mask. As a big fan of the franchise, I was incredibly nervous to hear that a fifth film was coming possibly without Neve Campbell returning as Sidney. As a result, tt is a huge relief to hear that she has signed on.

What do you think about Neve Campbell returning to the Scream franchise? Let us know in the comments!
