The montage at the finale’s beginning really sets in how much more intense this series has become in its second season. Especially after the end of the previous episode, all of us, this reviewer included, is wondering what the hell happened!
Compound V’s exposure has led it to where it cannot be stopped, Becca (Shantel VanSanten) herself deals with the fallout of Homelander (Antony Starr) and Stormfront (Aya Cash)’s actions, and the Boys all finally have plans to kill plausible attackers from the Seven. Maeve (Dominique McElligott) has reached a breaking point herself amidst the chaos, and it’s a wonder what she’ll do in matters to come. Of course, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), after learning of the previous episode’s events, is sure to surge the fight even more. Vought, on the other hand, shows just how far they extend, which makes us wonder how much further they might.
One “boy” in particular finds himself yearning back and does so, even more, when the reality of his lineage hits. Surprisingly, there seems to be some care from a certain character. What’s interesting is some characters share this sentiment, and it makes us wonder which characters could potentially get along eventually. Power and the strength to deal with them become curious in the characters that navigate it at whatever stage.
In preparation for our grand finale, we see heart across the board and similarities growing clearer in potential dynamics. Hate, though, grows against heart, and intensifies the battle and puts in flux the means to succeed. Concerns from individual characters encourage rogue attitudes. Everything comes to a boil, demonstrating that The Boys truly knows how to cook up a finale.
When everything is on the line, as it is in these situations, everyone puts their heart and soul into the final fight (and I mean everyone). The culmination of it all truly balances scales and shifts the landscape from where it once stood into the next season. Even after everything, what our characters truly care about is something we are reminded of, but also something they struggle with, too. What will that struggle reveal as they develop?
Some, however, could care less, just in this series’ fashion, and get where they can however they can, no matter who they leave beneath. Those that are on the same level, though, stick to what the other’s taught them in their adventures. Lastly, there are certain trajectories that do remain uncertain, and those that could close the book…
One thing does become curious, though, and when power meets the protagonist, it seems nothing will be the same in the most ultimate way!
Will you miss The Boys? We, too! Season 3 is set to film early next year, and it will feature the character Soldier Boy.
