HBO Max’s Green Lantern television series, produced by DC Comics screenwriter and executive producer Greg Berlanti, has more individuals from the industry joining the project.
In a report by Deadline, The Lego Batman Movie scribe Seth Grahame-Smith has been tapped to be a showrunner for the series, the first season of which is set to consist of 10 episodes, running for an hour apiece. He will executive produce and co-write the series alongside Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow co-creator Marc Guggenheim. Meanwhile, Berlanti Productions is set to produce in association with Warner Brothers Television.
The series will feature the journeys of Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, Alan Scott, and many more Green Lanterns as well as figures such as Sinestro and Kilowog. In addition, new heroic characters will show up to the ranks of the Green Lantern Corps. Earlier this year, Berlanti announced the series will explore the depths of space, as it will span several decades focused on two Green Lanterns’ stories on Earth and on Sinestro’s story in space.
A Green Lantern Corps film was previously in the works during the mid-to-late 2010s, taking place somewhere within the DC Extended Universe timeline. However, with massive changes occurring in this cinematic franchise, who knows if this will still happen anytime soon!
More recently, the series finale of Arrow teased John Diggle as a potential Green Lantern character for the future of the Arrowverse, although fans of the CW superhero franchise have yet to get an update on that.
As we wait for more news, here is a list of films and shows currently on the HBO Max streaming service. And if you are wondering what may become of the DCEU, we may have an idea!
