‘Wonder Girl’ Series in Development

Today, as confirmed by Deadline, The CW has put into development a brand new series to join their roster of DC superheroes centered around the character of Wonder-Girl. But which Wonder-Girl are they basing this series on?: Donna Troy? Cassie Sandsmark? It seems that none other than a recently-to-debut character named Yara-Flor–a character that is part of DC’s Future Slate event–actually takes up the mantle.

The synopsis for the prospective series reads “a Latina Dreamer who was born of an Amazonian Warrior and a Brazilian River God, learns that she is Wonder Girl, and with her newfound power must fight the evil forces that would seek to destroy the world.” The series will be written by Dailyn Rodriguez (‘Ugly Betty’ and ‘Queen of the South’) and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden for Berlanti Productions.

While there isn’t much to base off for what we may expect from this series due to the character not even having debuted yet, this isn’t the first time the CW’s “Arrowverse” has delved into the Amazonian/Wonder Woman mythos before. Previously, in ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ season 3, we saw a small glimpse of the famous island of Themyscira as Zari drops off Helen of Troy to become an Amazonian. In addition, in ‘Batwoman’ season 1, episode 2 titled “The Rabbit Hole”, Kate Kane briefly mentions stating she would have rather dressed up as Wonder Woman rather than Batman to Sophie Moore.

If this series is picked up, it will make its debut on The CW DC current roster (assuming one of these won’t end by the time it airs). The roster includes ‘The Flash’, ‘Batwoman’, ‘Superman and Lois’, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’, ‘Black Lightning’, ‘Stargirl’, and potential spin offs ‘Green Arrow and The Canaries’ and ‘Painkiller’.
