Start the countdown! Earlier today, Scream franchise executive producer Kevin Williamson announced that the series’ fifth film, officially titled Scream, has wrapped principal photography.
That’s a wrap on Scream, which I’m excited to announce is the official title of the next film! Nearly 25 years ago, when I wrote Scream and Wes Craven brought it to life, I could not have imagined the lasting impact it would have on you, the fans. (1/3) pic.twitter.com/RCuhVUclG4

Yes, this is the most confusing a sequel title will be to its original. (We’re looking at you, Final Destination/The Final Destination and Suicide Squad/The Suicide Squad!)
This horror film project has had the most updates reported this year — from what we can tell — as it was first reported that Ready or Not director duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett would be co-spearheading Scream back in May. Then in September, Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games, Star Trek: Lower Decks, The Boys) joined the cast roster of the film, later followed by the return of Neve Campbell and Marley Shelton as their respective characters Sidney Prescott and Deputy Judy Hicks, along with the additions of Mason Gooding, Dylan Minnette, Kyle Gallner, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mikey Madison.
Now that filming has completed, we can expect teaser footage or trailer of some sort to be released sometime next year, hopefully soon. Scream, written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, is set to release on January 14th, 2022!
