DC Films President Walter Hamada extended his contract with the company to stay on as President through 2023.
Variety reported the deal today, and stated that DC Films is expected to announce the agreement “imminently.” Spearheading the Christmas Day Same Day Premiere of Wonder Woman 1984, Hamada will continue to oversee the production of the DC Films lineup, with films such as Black Adam, Shazam 2, and HBO Max’s Gotham City PD series entering production within the next year. With his two year extension, Hamada will continue reporting to former New Line Cinema colleague Toby Emmerich.
Hamada recently interviewed with the New York Times, where he announced multiple new DC projects headed to HBO Max, WarnerMedia’s newest streaming platform. Titles such as Batgirl and Static Shock will head to the service under Hamada’s direction, with more spinoffs from the main movie franchises expected along the way. And with 2022’s The Flash, starring Ezra Miller and directed by Andy Muschietti, Hamada will find his hands full with the soft relaunch of the DCEU, and the introduction of DC’s Multiverse.
The DC Films President has had his troubles running the superhero film company. After stepping into the role in 2018, Hamada found himself dealing with allegations by Justice League star Ray Fisher. Fisher levied claims of misconduct by Justice League fill-in director Joss Whedon, which were seemingly confirmed by many of his Justice League co-stars. An internal investigation was held by WarnerMedia, conducted by a third party group that ultimately wound up with some unknown actions taken in conclusion.
Most recently, Fisher took to Twitter in the same manner he did in July 2020, which kicked off the investigation after repeated attempts by Fisher to take things up the chain of command.
Walter Hamada is the most dangerous kind of enabler.

His lies, and WB PR’s failed Sept 4th hit-piece, sought to undermine the very real issues of the Justice League investigation.
I will not participate in any production associated with him.

With Hamada’s contract renewed, it seems Ray Fisher will not be returning as Cyborg in The Flash or in any other future DC Films projects.
Walter Hamada spent a decade at New Line Cinema, a studio owned by Warner Brothers. There, he acted as Vice President of Production and oversaw films such as The Conjuring and the subsequent franchises it created. He stepped into the DC Films President role in 2018 where he oversaw the box office success of Aquaman and Shazam! as well as 2020’s Birds of Prey prior to the global COVID-19 pandemic. With his new deal, Walter Hamada will oversee the released of The Suicide Squad, HBO Max’s Peacemaker, and the highly-anticipated The Batman, starring Robert Pattison and directed by Matt Reeves.
