Since 2016, HBO’s hit comedy-drama television series Insecure has earned wide smiles, wonderful laughs, and wet tears from thousands and thousands of fans. Its fourth season ended on a tough note, the entire season itself having gotten us through the rough (emphasis on “rough”) patches of political wrongdoings and police brutalities upon the Black community and its allies.

Just yesterday, it was reported that the series is coming to an end in its fifth season. Co-creator/lead actress Issa Rae has since then issued out a statement saying that her (and the cast and crew’s) time on the show has been great, although it would be safe to say that it is just the beginning.

Insecure follows Issa Dee (Rae) as she navigates her way into her early-30s with friends Molly Carter (Yvonne Orji), Kelli Prenny (Natasha Rothwell), and Tiffany DuBois (Amanda Seales); lovers Martin Lawrence Walker (Jay Ellis) and Nathan Campbell (Kendrick Sampson); and others.

The show is made known by its choices in music, lovely cinematography, and remarkable storytelling narratives. Since its release, it has been nominated and snubbed for multiple Emmy Awards, and has gone so far as to win one this past fall in “Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series.”

If this final season does not win any awards, then the least we will have is our love for those who matter.

What are your thoughts on this decision? Which season was your favorite? Which character did you love the most? Let us know! For more television, comedy, drama, and HBO-related news and reviews follow The Cinema Spot on Twitter (@TheCinemaSpot) and Instagram (@thecinemaspot_).
