Heated discourse argues whether or not we need a new Superman film in the DC Extended Universe. After Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it was difficult to determine. Even with the Zack Snyder Cut of Justice League, it may still be a tricky decision. Today, we might have some news!
Shadow And Act reported that a new Superman movie is being developed, however no release date so far. Ta-Nehisi Coates will write the script, and J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella will produce — both under Bad Robot. Additionally, no director has been chosen, although details for the plot along with whether Henry Cavill will return as the character or be recast are not revealed.
With that said, Coates and Abrams are excited to start work on the film. The former cannot wait to “meaningfully adding to the legacy of America’s most iconic mythic hero.” Abrams implied in his own statement that the film shall take place in the DCEU.
Background Information on the Writer and Producers
Coates is a Black writer and journalist who has worked under TIME, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and other publications. Under Marvel Comics, he has written both a Black Panther and a Captain America series. The writer gained traction while at The Atlantic as a national correspondent. There, he wrote about cultural, social, and political issues, specifically in regards to African Americans and white supremacy. His father William Paul Coates was a veteran in the Vietnam War, a former member of the Black Panther Party, a publisher, and a librarian. Coates’s father founded and had run Black Classic Press, a literary publisher for African-American titles. Ta-Nehisi Coates has a remarkable professional background to work on this film, and we cannot wait to see what he has to offer!
Last year, Abrams was reported to develop Justice League Dark and The Shining television adaptations for HBO Max. He has dipped his hands in the Star Trek film franchise as well as in Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens. He created the television series Alias and co-created Felicity with Matt Reeves and Lost with Damon Lindelof.
Before being hired at Bad Robot as Head of Motion PicturesHannah Minghella was President of TriStar Productions for film and television.
Superman and Supergirl So Far

He also appeared in The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Mission: Impossible — Fallout, and Enola Holmes.
