March conjures the madness with great horror news! Child’s Play franchise creator Don Mancini’s Chucky television series brought in some familiar and some new faces to its cast. The teenage leads are Zackary Arthur, Teo Briones, Alyvia Alyn Lind, and Björgvin Arnarson. Devon Sawa joins the show in a recurring role, while Jennifer Tilly returns from the franchise’s films as Tiffany Valentine.
The Kids
In Deadline’s report, the descriptions of the teenagers are as follows:
Arthur will play Jake Webber. An easy target for Chucky, Jake is a loner trying to find his place in the world after his mom’s death while never connecting with his dad or his peers.
Briones will play Junior Webber. Bree and Logan’s son and Jake’s cousin. He is the all-American, over-achieving, jock – the opposite of his loner cousin Jake.
Lind is Lexy Taylor. Self-appointed princess of her school and Jake’s primary bully, who also dates his cousin Junior.
Arnarson portrays Devon Lopez. Boy-next-door and true-crime junkie, Devon is hellbent on making sense of Hackensack’s mysterious tragedies, both past and present.
Arthur’s first role is on Amazon Prime’s Transparent in 2014, while Briones appeared in last year’s Netflix series, Ratched. Eerily enough, their roles as cousins could be covered up by the fact that they could be twin children of the dolls. Of course, I refer to both Charles Lee Ray aka Chucky (Brad Dourif) and Valentine. Beans El-Balawi and Kristina Hewitt portrayed the children Glen and Glenda in 2004’s Seed of Chucky, while also being voiced by Billy Boyd.
Lind appeared in Transparent alongside Arthur as the character Grace, while Arnarson played a role in Hulu’s PEN15.
Tilly and Sawa
Tilly previously appears in Bride of (1998), Seed of (2004), Curse of (2013), and Cult of Chucky (2017) as Valentine, but also played herself in Seed of. She is well-known for her roles in Pixar’s Monsters, Inc., Disney’s The Haunted Mansion, and most notably, Fox’s Family Guy. Next to Dourif, the actress is radiant across the gay filmmaker’s killer doll movies.
Sawa is a horror acting legend. He has major roles in Casper (1995), Idle Hands (1999), and Final Destination (2000). Also, he is rapper Eminem’s Stan in the music video for the song, “Stan.”
Other Information
Last year before the pandemic, the series earned the green light to begin pre-production and is ordered to screen on the Syfy channel. Television writer-producer Nick Antosca (Channel Zero) and long-time franchise producer David Kirschner will help Mancini run the series. The franchise creator will reportedly direct the show’s pilot episode. Alex Hedlund will also co-produce. Filming begins next month.
The show’s synopsis is as follows:
In the new Chucky television series, after a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies — and allies — from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.
No current news on whether former child star Alex Vincent will reprise his Curse of and Cult of Chucky adult role as Andy Barclay. He originally played the character in Child’s Play (1988) and its 1990 sequel. Let’s at least cross our fingers for his return.
Barclay was last seen trapped by Chucky and his killer doll clones inside of a cell at a mental institution. Meanwhile, wheelchair-bound Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) is possessed by Chucky and escapes the building. Chucky (as Pierce) flees with both a human and doll version of Valentine. Additionally, Barclay’s former foster sister, Kyle (Christine Elise) appears in Cult of Chucky‘s post-credits scene.
