Hulu nabs Mattson Tomlin’s Mother/Android film from Miramax and 6th & Idaho Productions, according to a new report from Deadline. The film was originally produced by Miramax and 6th & Idaho Productions, the production company of The Batman director Matt Reeves.

The film stars Chloë Grace Mortez and Algee Smith. It has been described as a sci-fi thriller. Tomlin, writer of Project Power from Netflix and co-writer of The Batman, will make his feature film directorial debut with Mother/Android, which is expected to release some time in 2021, but has no set date yet.

Speaking on this project, which he also wrote, Tomlin said that, “the film is a labor of love,” while producer Matt Reeves added the film is “an intimate sci-fi film that is both beautiful and extremely personal.”

Recently, Hulu has saw quite a bit of success with it’s originals, such as Palm Springs, which won Best Comedy Film at the Critics’ Choice Awards this past Sunday, March 7th. The United States vs. Billie Holiday also brought a Critics’ Choice nomination home to the streaming service in the categories of Best Actress for star Andra Day, and for Best Makeup. The streaming service also is set to debut the final season of their hit series The Handmaid’s Tale on April 28th, and the stop-motion M.O.D.O.K. series from Marvel and produced by Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum.
