During the events of tonight’s Batwoman Episode S2E08 “Survived Much Worse” we finally got a resolution to what has really been going on with Kate Kane.
SPOILERS BEWARE FOR THE FIRST EIGHT EPISODES OF SEASON 2.
Throughout the first eight episodes of the season we have been told by the season’s “big bad” Safiyah that she has had held Kate in captivity after her plane from National City was blown up. Safiyah tasked Alice with tracking down and killing ex-Coryona islander Ocean in exchange for Kate. It was revealed in tonight’s episode this was all a lie as Safiyah never had Kate Kane and that she was just teaching Alice and Ocean a lesson for defying her by leaving her island.
So where has Kate Kane been this whole time? Well that part is a little complicated as Julia in tonight’s episode reveals to Luke and Mary that she has identified the remains of Kate Kane off of a body off the outskirts of Gotham. Despite this reveal though in the closing moments of tonight’s episode it’s revealed under a Gotham City Barber Shop that Kate Kane is actually alive as identified by her ruby necklace with bandages plastered all over her face.
With this big reveal Wallis Day (Krypton) is now set to play Kate as she assumedly rips off the bandages in either next episode of the following. Day steps into the role shortly after the original Kane actress, Ruby Rose, departed the series after the first season.
With Kate back in play on the show now we have been assured Ryan will not be going anywhere though! The backhalf of the season will explore where Kate has been this whole time and what her character’s role remains to be on the series. According to showrunner Caroline Dries this was always the plan regarding Season 2 as revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly
Here’s Wallis’s official statement regarding joining the cast:
Super excited to finally announce I’m joining the cast of Batwoman. I’m sure you can imagine how much this means to me and how incredible it’s been working on the show so far. Everyone’s made me feel so welcome and it’s amazing being back home with my DC family 🦇♥️ https://t.co/UJpkF1uAAC
